Lalla Sewing Project
All over in the country there are many women who are widows or abandoned by their husbands and are in great hardship to look after themselves and their children. This problem is particular evident in the Kehemu community due to the high prevalence of HIV. In this context the project aims at providing vocational and entrepreneurial training to a group of women in order for them to directly mange the sewing centre where. The centre will be structure in a way that the members will work and produce dresses of all types for sale. The funds for the construction of the structure have been collected by Marcello and his wife Lalla while the Italian NGO CISP has raised funds for the training activities and for purchasing the material and the sewing equipments. The building were the tailoring activities will be run and where the women will be trained is expected to be completed by the end of September 2008, in the meanwhile CISP as already planned both the vocational and the entrepreneurial training for the selected ladies. In the end the project will be organized as a cooperative and managed on a “commercial line” and the beneficiaries will be the women working, and their families
